[D] – Massive destruction on the motorway, truck races unbraked into the truck in front: semi-trailer pushes 4 other trucks forward Serious accident: A5 closed for hours near Weingarten/Karlsruhe, major operation by Karlsruhe fire department & Weingarten fire department One moderately injured person, two slightly injured and property damage amounting to around 450,000 euros are the result of a rear-end collision on the A5 motorway near the Weingarten gravel pit. A semi-trailer driver was driving in the right lane heading north/Frankfurt and failed to see the end of a traffic jam. He drove unbraked into another semi-trailer, which pushed three trucks in front of him onto each other. A total of 5 trucks were involved in the accident. The driver was rescued from his cab by first responders and suffered serious injuries. The entire road had to be closed temporarily to record the accident and because of leaking operating fluids. The vehicles were diverted at the Karlsruhe-Durlach junction. Traffic can be diverted past the accident site to recover the semi-trailers. From around 4:15 p.m. the road will be completely closed again and diverted via the Durlach exit. The length of the traffic jam was up to 14 kilometers at times. The emergency lane was not formed or was only formed very poorly for the approaching emergency services, making it difficult for the fire brigade to get there.
