https://www.medicinaeinformazione.com/ / medicinaeinformazione / einformazione 40 years have passed since the scientific world was faced with a new virus, HIV and the disease linked to HIV infection, namely AIDS. It was a dramatic moment, and society was also unprepared to manage such a disruptive phenomenon, the stigma that accompanied the infection was a condemnation within a condemnation for those who discovered they were HIV positive. Fortunately, since then, many steps forward have been made both in terms of treatment with powerful and effective drugs capable of blocking viral replication, allowing people with HIV to live a long time with a good quality of life, and in terms of raising awareness in society, although it is important to never let our guard down on the need to inform especially the youngest about prevention and early diagnosis. In recent years, precisely to raise public awareness on such a crucial issue and to reiterate the value of an adequate therapeutic path, the project Together we can stop the virus was born, which through art tells the experiences and emotions of people with HIV with works of art that photograph discrimination, the fear of diagnosis, the success of therapies, the joy of being able to grow old despite the virus and the achievement of a good quality of life. After the augmented reality of the first edition and the virtual exhibition of 2020, this year the project “Together we can stop the virus” proposed the Call4Artist, an initiative aimed at artists and creative professionals under 40 to enrich the 2021 edition of the Campaign with additional content. The 5 winners will be the protagonists of the Artistic Residency, an artistic laboratory in which ideas and styles will flow together to tell 40 years of HIV between scientific successes, real-life testimonies and awareness of the value of communication. We talked about it with Ilaria Bonacossa, artistic curator of the project, Giovanni Franchina of Bepart Società Cooperativa Cristina Le Grazie, Medical Director of Gilead Italia. Among the questions: the role of art in conveying emotions and the profound meaning of the project. Together we can stop the virus addresses young people with a new language such as contemporary art to raise awareness about HIV, how important is it for them to be informed? It has been 40 years since the world learned about HIV and AIDS, what has changed in these years, innovative therapeutic solutions that can further improve the prognosis and quality of life of people with HIV.
