The Austrian historian and Ukraine expert of the Federal Army, Colonel of the General Staff Dr. Markus Reisner, will give a lecture on "The War for Ukraine - A Current Situation Briefing" on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the Potsdam Center for Military History and Social Sciences of the Bundeswehr. In the winter of 2023/24, the sixth phase of Russia's war against Ukraine began. During this second Russian winter offensive, the impression arose that not much had happened on the front - in fact, the opposite was the case: Russia launched massive attacks along the entire approximately 1,200 km long front. Ukraine tried to hold out and defend itself. This was followed by the second Russian summer offensive and thus the seventh phase of this war. At the beginning of autumn 2024, more than 960 days after the start of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the situation on the front shows that the Russian armed forces have regained momentum. How did this happen? What does this mean for the current tactical operational leadership of both sides? What developments can now be expected at the operational and strategic level?
