He was director of Compal between 2000 and 2006 and, simultaneously, of Nutricafés, between 2003 and 2006. This was followed by Privado Holding, owner of BPP, where, after the departure of João Rendeiro, he became executive president, in the year 2009. After presenting a plan for the resolution of BPP, Privado Holding's largest asset, and this being rejected by shareholders, he moved to the television area, taking on the role of general director of TVI from 2010 to 2011 . He was president of the Board of Directors of Turismo de Portugal between 2013 and 2016 and in 2015 he was elected vice-president of the European Travel Commission. He was also a Board Member of Faber Ventures between 2013 and 2018. He was also involved in the negotiations that brought the Web Summit to Lisbon in 2015. On October 6, 2019, he was elected deputy, for the Lisbon constituency, in the Legislative Elections 2019, becoming the first representative of the Liberal Initiative in the Legislative Assembly. In 2022, the party's results multiplied, leading it to become the 4th political force, and the Liberal Initiative managed to elect 8 deputies in that year's elections. On January 12th of this year, João said goodbye to parliament criticizing the “arrogance and arrogance” of the PS in its relationship with citizens, arguing that “the money does not belong to the State, the money belongs to the people”.
