<Anchor> A robot that operates by attaching to the human body like clothes has been developed using domestic technology. This is a scene that we only saw in movies, and reporter So Hwang-wook will tell you more. <Reporter> A robot equipped with two legs approaches a person sitting in a wheelchair. Just like in the movie 'Iron Man', it naturally covers the body of the person sitting and wears it. Once it is put on, it can get out of the wheelchair and walk right away. It is not much different from the walking speed of ordinary people. This is a wearable robot developed by researchers at KAIST. [Gong Gyeong-cheol/Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, KAIST: When the robot approaches me, I can dock it and wear it on my front. So I can get up and walk without the help of others…] By applying technology that actively controls the center of gravity, the robot maintains its balance without falling over even if I accidentally push it. The main parts of this wearable robot, such as the motor and reducer, which increased its walking speed to 3.2 km/h, similar to that of non-disabled people, were all developed using domestic technology. There are three lenses mounted right below the controller to detect obstacles in front. Since the main controller controls 12 actuators, it can perform all actions that a non-disabled person can perform. Existing wearable robots required the user to move the robot legs by force when moving sideways, but this robot is equipped with a device that can move sideways, making it easier to move. It can even be used in narrow spaces, such as airplane seats. A researcher who is completely paralyzed from the waist down participated in the development of this robot. [Kim Seung-hwan/KAIST Researcher: My child must have seen his dad always ride a four-wheeled wheelchair, right? But I wanted to tell him and show him that his dad used to walk like this.] The KAIST team plans to develop this robot to a level where severely disabled people can enjoy simple sports.
