Big Brother is watching me? Each of us has probably been recorded by a surveillance camera at some point: for example, at train stations, airports or other public places. There, they are supposed to help prevent crimes or solve them after the fact. From pickpocketing to terrorist attacks. There are repeated calls to expand video surveillance in Germany and to use technologies such as AI and historical recognition - especially after terrible events such as the terrorist attack on the Berlin Christmas market in 2016 or knife attacks in public spaces. But does more video surveillance really bring more security or does it ultimately curtail basic rights and restrict our privacy? In 13 questions, we discussed the benefits of video surveillance and asked what responsible use of AI-supported surveillance could look like in the future. #13QUESTIONS #unbubble #videosurveillance Our participants: Tristan Horx, futurologist Melissa Enders, Women's Union Mainz William Bobach, police officer & DPolG Kristina Hatas, Amnesty International Schorsch Kamerun, singer, author Nils Zurawski, social anthropologist Chapters: 00:37 Do we need more video surveillance? 01:48 Why are you campaigning for more video surveillance? 04:20 Do you see more dangers or potential in video surveillance? 06:16 Why is the Women's Union campaigning for more video surveillance? 09:20 Do many people rightly feel unsafe? 14:23 Are people's fears being played on? 16:08 Are AI and facial recognition already being used? 18:54 Should certain video technology make the police's job easier? 21:08 Are you naive because you want to turn back the clock? 30:08 How are these technologies used in less democratic states? 33:20 Compromise proposal Jo 34:45 Compromise proposal Green 36:45 Compromise proposal Yellow 13 Questions is a format from ZDFkultur.
