Translation: François Bon © Éditions Points, 2015 ------- The Color Out of Space was Lovecraft's favorite story. Of course, the narration is fluid; of course, the progression is effective; of course, the places and characters encountered are intriguing. But more than anything, the subject itself is disturbing. At the crossroads of fantasy and science fiction, both one and the other without being totally assimilable to one of them, this story escapes all classifications. Are we in reality? Yes. The narrator's enterprise and actions seem justified. The reactions of the professors are coherent and expected. The names of the chemicals and measuring devices are perfectly identifiable. The fruits, plants and animals so often mentioned are not imaginary. And yet, are we in reality? Are we even in the palpable? Nothing could be less certain. The "thing" is reduced to a color, but an indefinable color, impossible to compare with a known shade. Worse still, what is extracted is not even clearly defined... is it a rock, a plastic, or something else? Is it a material with unsuspected properties, or a living being? Is it a will driven by a conscience, or the simple but formidable physical manifestation of an object coming "from the great outdoors"? Never had Lovecraft pushed the "personification of the Unknown" so far. ------- Reading, Illustration and Music of Tindalos ------- Next video: History of the Necronomicon ------- To find the illustrations, music, and the whole universe of Tindalos https://www.tindaloslechien.com To find the stories in mp3 https://hearthis.at/tindalos To follow Tindalos on Facebook / tindalos.lechien.5 For a nice little boost by supporting Tindalos on Tipeee https://fr.tipeee.com/tindalos Want to treat yourself to an illustration of Tindalos? https://www.tindaloslechien.com/bouti... #Lovecraft #Color
