In 2005, farmer Renné Senna won around R$52 million in the Mega-Sena lottery. What seemed like just another story about a lucky winner ended up becoming one of the top stories on the police pages. On January 7, 2007, while he was in a bar in Lavras, in the interior of Rio Bonito-RJ, a few kilometers from his farm, Renné was murdered with four gunshots. His widow, former hairdresser Adriana Almeida, was eventually named as the mastermind behind the crime. The case has already had two trials. In the first, Adriana was acquitted. In the second, in December 2016, she was convicted, but is now free due to an appeal filed by her defense.
