A person shall be released from criminal liability if the following periods have expired from the date of the crime: a) two years after the commission of a minor crime; b) six years after the commission of a crime of average gravity; c) ten years after the commission of a serious crime; d) fifteen years after the commission of an especially serious crime. 2. The statute of limitations shall be calculated from the date of the crime until the moment the court verdict comes into legal force. If a person commits a new crime, the statute of limitations for each crime shall be calculated independently. 3. The running of the limitation period shall be suspended if the person who committed the crime evades investigation or trial or evades payment of the judicial fine imposed in accordance with Article 76.2 of this Code. In this case, the running of the limitation period shall be resumed from the moment of the detention of the said person or his/her surrender. 4. The question of the application of the limitation period to a person who committed a crime punishable by death or life imprisonment shall be decided by the court. If the court does not deem it possible to release the said person from criminal liability due to the expiration of the limitation period, the death penalty and life imprisonment shall not be applied. 5.
