As part of the summer evening concerts, the Shanty choir Albatros performed on Friday evening, August 6, 2021, under the pagoda tent on the Sint Jorisplein in Ridderkerk in the Ridderhof shopping center. The Shanty choir “Albatros”, founded in 1998, currently consists of 27 members, some of whom play an instrument such as accordions, guitar, drums and bass drum. An extensive sound system ensures a good singing performance and musical support during the performance. The choir is also led by a professional conductor. The repertoire consists of shanties and related songs in Dutch, English, German and Spanish. Because it regularly performs in nursing and care homes, the repertoire is richly provided with Dutch songs, especially about Rotterdam, the sea and the nostalgia of the open sea. Characteristic of the choir is the relaxed atmosphere during the performances. The choir radiates that it enjoys singing and that it wants to bring the audience a pleasant afternoon or evening. Partly because of this, Shanty choir “Albatros” is well known in the region and beyond.
