👉 WATCH THE NEW SERIES OF SECRET STORIES OF CZECH HISTORY FROM FEBRUARY ON PRIMA ZOOM 👈 The documentary deals with the personality of Prince Václav, various historical interpretations of his actions and the development of the thousand-year-old tradition that surrounds him. It reminds us of the age gap that separates us from Václav's real life, but also of values and problems that are just as valid today as they were ten centuries ago. It opens up questions arising from modest sources: What was the political atmosphere of Wenceslas' time? What cultural conditions prevailed? Was the prince married and had children? Was he really murdered by his brother Boleslav, who later initiated his veneration as a saint? And did Western rationality or Eastern intuition play the main role in Václav's life, religious and political orientation? According to some researchers, he wanted to establish a Slavic archbishopric in Prague, so wasn't the real motive for his murder the resistance of the German priests to this plan? The program also clarifies the role of veneration for saints in early medieval society in general and the transformation of Prince Wenceslas into a symbol of Czech statehood and the ideal of an eternal monarch who has accompanied our culture for centuries. We will also look at the fate of the St. Wenceslas tradition in the twentieth century, especially the falsification of this tradition by the German Nazis - the interpretation of St. Wenceslas as the patron saint of serfdom, the Nazi award "Saint Wenceslas's Eagle" for Czech collaborators and other examples. The tradition of St. Wenceslas, expressed by the motto "Defend your own, do not ask for others!" remains an expression of the continuity and perspective of Czech history even in the third millennium. The murder of St. Wenceslas is part of the primary school curriculum. But was it really a planned murder on the part of Boleslav? https://zoom.iprima.cz/historie/vrazd...
