????Exploring the Haramain High-Speed Train: A Documentary About Engineering and Desert Challenges???? This striking Spanish-language documentary, directed by Gerardo Olivares, reveals the colossal efforts behind the Haramain High-Speed Train, also known as the Desert High-Speed Train. The work explores the extreme challenges involved in building and operating a high-tech railway line across 450 kilometres of desert between the holy cities of Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia. This project, led by Renfe and carried out in collaboration with 12 companies from different countries, was completed in 2018, becoming the first high-speed train to connect two of the most important places for millions of Muslims. The Haramain High-Speed Train is a symbol of innovation and international collaboration. Capable of reaching speeds of up to 320 km/h, it was designed to challenge the unforgiving conditions of the desert, withstanding temperatures above 50°C, strong winds and sandstorms. From specially adapted trains to advanced sand containment systems and cutting-edge materials, this feat of engineering has been hailed as one of the most impressive in the world. The standard, double-track, electrified railway line is equipped with cutting-edge management and communication systems such as the Da Vinci system, ETCS 2 and GSM-R communications. It has five main stations, located in Makkah, Jeddah, King Abdullah International Airport, KAEC (King Abdullah Economic City) and Medina, all carefully sited to respect restricted areas. Along its 449.1 km, the infrastructure includes electrical substations, maintenance workshops, auxiliary stations, and even special crossings for dromedaries. This documentary also highlights how the Haramain train symbolises the harmony between advanced technology and tradition, facilitating the journeys of pilgrims who year after year head to these shrines at speeds of over 300 km/h. This project not only represents a breakthrough in rail transport, but also a milestone in engineering and cultural respect. #Trains #Renfe #trains #railway #spanishrailway #ouigo #iryo #trainspotting #trainstation #railways ????
