There is a route bus that traverses the Kii Mountains from Yamato-Yagi in Nara Prefecture to Shingu in Wakayama Prefecture. It travels a total distance of 169.9 km, has 168 stops, and takes a whopping six and a half hours. It is the longest route bus in Japan. Moreover, much of the journey is a tough one, running through deep mountainous areas. We followed Mano, who drives this route bus, closely and accompanied him on the entire journey. The bus became popular about 10 years ago and the number of passengers has increased, but he is concerned about the decrease in passengers at Totsukawa Village, the largest village in Japan, where he would like to be the original passengers. There are many things to see, such as the natural scenery visible from the bus window and the site of a major disaster caused by heavy rain in the past.
