Racial quotas were created to correct historical injustices against the black population. This is not a favor. 130 years after the abolition of slavery, the black population still faces obstacles to accessing higher education. These same obstacles do not apply to white people. Therefore, the policy of racial quotas for university admission is a way to reduce (albeit slowly) the levels of inequality that persist in Brazil. The 1st National Symposium on Black, Afro-religious, and Quilombola people discussed the importance of quotas in transforming Brazil. Participants: Raquel Dias, General Coordinator for Ethnic-Racial Relations at the Ministry of Education Ordep Serra, professor and anthropologist at the Federal University of Bahia Edelmare Melo, Deputy Attorney General for Labor (MPT) Valdirene Assis, National Coordinator for Equality (MPT-SP) Humberto Adami, Pres. National Truth Commission on Black Slavery in Brazil Deborah Duprat, Federal Attorney for Citizens' Rights More information: https://g1.globo.com/economia/noticia... http://agenciabrasil.ebc.com.br/geral... http://agenciabrasil.ebc.com.br/educa... http://www.seppir.gov.br/portal-antig... https://istoe.com.br/149761_ESTUDANTE... https://educacao.uol.com.br/noticias/...
