With a passion above all for racing cars. Before starting to produce cars with his company, he participated in the expansion of most of the major German automotive companies, from Mercedes Benz to Audi. Above all, he led the birth of Volkswagen, as well as designing the company's first car, the Beetle. Ferdinand Porsche was born in 1875 in a small village north of what is now the Czech Republic, which was then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. The son of a plumber, as a young man he spent his time studying electricity despite his father's opposition. Although he was self-taught, Porsche achieved an excellent level, so much so that he was able to build a system of electric lights and a working generator for his parents' house. Then in 1893 he went to work in Austria, in Vienna, where he was hired by Bela Egger, a company specializing in developing and producing electrical devices. At the time, this was considered cutting-edge work. Porsche, thanks to his ability, quickly rose through the ranks, going from a simple worker to a manager. During this period, he was involved in a project in collaboration with Lohner to create a hybrid car, equipped with both a heat engine and electric motors. Porsche built the electric motors for what would be the world's first working hybrid car. After the success of this car, exhibited at the 1900 Paris Expo, Porsche was hired by Lohner, the company that would later become Mercedes Benz. With Lohner, which became Mercedes Benz in 1926, Porsche developed mainly racing cars with record performances for their time, such as the Austro Daimler Sascha. In 1931, after years at the top of Mercedes, Porsche managed to save enough money and find investors to found his own company in Stuttgart, Germany. At first, however, he did not produce cars but instead designed cars for others. In 1932, he designed the first car for Auto Union, a company born from a merger that is now known as the Audi brand. During the Nazi period in Germany, Porsche was given the task of creating an efficient but economical car based on the Ford model in America. Porsche then designed the first Volkswagen, called the Beetle. The Nazi government had promised him, after the Beetle, to finance the creation of a new racing car. Instead, Porsche received the order to design military vehicles. He will also participate in the project to create the famous Panzer Tiger. After the war he is taken prisoner by the French army, he will be freed only after a few years. In June 1951 the first car produced directly by Porsche and with the Porsche brand, the Porsche 356, is presented and raced. Ferdinand Porsche, however, will never see the commercial success of his creation. In fact, he died in early 1951.
