The therapy and diagnosis of Parkinson's disease is constantly in flux and the knowledge gained in recent years has been enormous. This is also reflected in the current guideline. In this episode, guideline coordinator Professor Trenkwalder provides information on what is new and particularly important in the guideline. Parkinson's disease begins many years before the typical motor symptoms appear. The disease cannot be cured, but the symptoms can be treated. In this episode, Professor Dr. Claudia Trenkwalder talks to Eduardo Fernández-Tenllado Ramminger about what guideline-compliant Parkinson's therapy looks like. She coordinated the current guideline on Parkinson's disease and, among other things, is head of the Paracelsus Competence Network Parkinson's and Movement Disorders at the Paracelsus Elena Clinic in Kassel. This episode also deals with relevant side effects or complications that can occur. For example, akinetic crisis has been newly included in the guideline. A rare but serious complication that should be recognized and treated as early as possible. And what does the current evidence say about dealing with fluctuations in effectiveness or the use of new procedures such as deep brain stimulation or pump therapy?
