About :

The Pálóczi family owned the market towns of (Sáros) Patak and Újhely between 1429 and 1526 through the donation of King Zsigmond. (In 1526, the last Pálóczi fell in the Battle of Mohács, and in 1527, thanks to Ferdinand, the town came into the possession of Péter Perényi.) László V also confirmed the Pálóczi family's property in Patak in 1453 in a deed of donation. The certificates issued by Mátyás Hunyadi in 1461 and 1465 testify directly about the castle for the first time. The former locates the castle with considerable accuracy: according to it, it stands in the quarter called Héce, and László Pálóczi's own manor house extends from the ditch at the "upper end" of the Franciscan monastery towards Ardó. In the latter, he allows László to "...fortify his curia, which is located in a market town called Patak in the Zemplén county, with bastions, castle walls and moats, and other necessary structures...". From 1480, several documents mention or refer to the castle - castellum - fortified in this way. Its destruction can be linked to the battles of the years after Mohács (1528), when their territory became the scene of battles between János Szapolyai and Ferdinand Habsburg. In the 1980s, archaeologist Katalin Dankó had the opportunity to examine the castle as part of a rescue. He carried out a partial archaeological investigation of the castle on Szél Hill. The object is an area of exactly 40x40 meters, surrounded by a two-meter-wide stone wall. It is located approximately 1 km north of the medieval city center. Before the excavations, György Sándorfi and Gyula Nováki carried out a geodetic survey. Further exploration could clarify the architectural separation and age of the manor-castellum, as it is not only from the 15th-16th centuries. fragments of ceramic material from the 14th century, but even very early, characteristic of the 14th century, were also found. Since the deposit is lined with built-up private plots, there is little possibility for further research in the near future. The film is about the castle and its surroundings in the XV-XVI centuries. reflects its state and possible versions in the 19th century. Using the guidance and help of teacher and local historian László Szekér József. Literature used: Katalin Dankó CASTRUM BENE 2/1990. BUDAPEST 1992. Research of the Sárospatak castellum.
