It is an excellent rifle because it is simple and rather reliable despite the fact that its mechanism is quite exposed when firing. Its direct gas borrowing system was innovative and continues to be used today by the AR10 and AR15 family developed by Eugene Stoner which operate with a gas vein but with a slightly different mechanism. Different versions of the MAS 49/56 were manufactured. Some in very few copies like the MAS 49-56 CR 60 with its folding stock. The MAS 49-56 MSE was a precision version MSE for Modifié St Etienne. There were also modified variants for the civilian market and some MAS 49/56 were adopted for the use of the 7.62 NATO. The MAS 49/56 will be replaced from the 80s by the FAMAS. And many of these rifles will then be sent abroad, particularly to African countries. Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Madagascar and many other countries will receive them. #MAS49/56 #MAS49 #France
