How many times have we talked here at En Perspectiva, at La Mesa de Filósofos or in technology spaces about acceleration, about loss of attention span, about anxiety. More so at this time. And how many times do we ourselves fall, due to the logic of the news agenda, into moving from one topic to another, into not allowing the topics to mature. We propose to do the opposite. The Spanish Catholic priest Pablo d'Ors, originally from Madrid, educated in New York, Rome, Prague and Vienna, advisor to the Pontifical Council for Culture by appointment of Pope Francis, is also a successful novelist and essayist. Both aspects of his life are linked, although not in the direct way that one might expect from a priest: d'Ors' work has to do with contemplation. Something that today we perhaps associate more with practices coming from Asia - meditation, yoga, Buddhism - but that Christian monks did all their lives. His most notable work is Biografía del silencio, an essay on meditation that became a bestseller with more than 300,000 copies sold. In addition, d'Ors founded Amigos del Desierto, an international network of meditators with whom he organizes retreats, forums and seminars. Retreats that, for the most advanced, can last up to nine days of strict silence, with five hours of meditation a day. How can you find silence in these crazy days before the holidays? We spoke to Pablo d'Ors at En Perspectiva who is visiting Uruguay to participate in an event at the Catholic University of Uruguay.
