Although she is still a toddler at the time, her brother's death affects her deeply. When she is 10 years old herself, she loses her mother to a malignant tumor in her head. Laura only has her dad left - the two share her grief and become a close-knit team. Her father supports her in her dreams and her wish to go to the USA as an au pair. Shortly before her stay abroad, Laura's dad has a routine check-up at the doctor and learns that a tumor has been found in his eye. Laura's world falls apart. How can it be that her family is plagued by so much misfortune? Despite the diagnosis, her father encourages her to continue to pursue her dream. With a heavy heart, she flies to the USA while her father undergoes treatment - there is a very good chance of recovery. On Father's Day, she writes him a message, but her dad doesn't reply. Then comes the shock: her father is in a bad condition. She immediately travels home, but she can only accompany her father to his deathbed.
