There was never any question about putting new tires on the front axle until some television shows began to emphasize the importance of putting new tires on the rear axle, seeking to dispel the myth that “new tires are for the front”. Experiments shown in videos are carried out in wet conditions, seeking to demonstrate the advantages of putting new tires on the rear axles of vehicles, in the event of replacing only one of the pairs. And this issue has spread virally, to the point where we have seen true aberrations such as vehicles with brand new tires on the rear axle and practically bald ones on the front, a true attack on common sense and safety. The main tire manufacturers recommend putting new tires on the rear axles, if only one of the pairs is being replaced. TWI It is common practice to use the tire until the limit below the acceptable wear. Since the minimum legal groove depth worldwide and in Brazil is 1.6 mm, the tires have a mark, every 90º, with this height. When the tread depth equals this mark, the tire and the car are in an illegal situation. This mark is called, appropriately, in English, tread wear indicator (TWI). This is the legal limit, but not the acceptable one, which is at least 3 mm (in a new tire it is 8 mm). There are already owner's manuals that include this recommendation. With 1.6 mm of tread depth, the tire is technically bald, and can no longer drain any water between it and the road. Despite this, it is agreed here that as long as the tread depth does not reach the TWI, the tire is safe. Don't fall for it. #tire #michelin #goodyear #continental
