Haenen, Herman 1990, Vlodrop Kerkrade Maastricht Venlo (place) Documentary about Limburg twenty-five years after the decision to end coal mining. The film starts with historical images from 17 December 1965 of Minister Den Uyl of Economic Affairs announcing the mine closures in the theatre of Heerlen, a Polygoon newsreel from 1956 of a visit by Queen Juliana to the state mine Beatrix in Vlodrop that was under construction and the extra production of the mines in 1963, unveiling of a monument in Kerkrade by Governor Dr. F. Houben. The Emma-Hendrik, the last coal mine of DSM and its demolition. Demonstration by miners in The Hague and during the visit of Minister Ruud Lubbers of Economic Affairs to Limburg. Speech by Governor Cremers to the Provincial States in 1977 about unemployment in the mining region, the establishment of SSO (Stichting Sanering Oostelijk Mijngebied) under the chairmanship of Mr. Smeets, the restructuring of the new mining area with new roads, the airport with Eurocontrol, Volvo Born, conversion of DSM coal to chemistry (to solve unemployment), establishment of new industries, the LIOF institute with a fragment from an English-language promotional film about the central location of Limburg, with images from the Frans Maas forwarding company (Venlo), the new Provincial House, MECC, AZM, CBS, ABP, housing (Randwijk Maastricht) and a photo report by Governor Mastenbroek about the cooperation of cross-border regions.
