Since December 2022, trains have been running at speeds of up to 250 km/h on the new ICE line from Wendlingen to Ulm. Engineers and track builders have been working on it for many years. We look back on the last, intensive months of construction: On the Filstal Bridge - the third highest railway bridge in Germany - the track builders are concreting the bed of the high-speed line. Later, over several nights, they will laboriously weld the tracks together using the thermite process. The film also shows the people behind the construction project - engineers, concrete workers, technicians who make the enormous project possible. We are there when the construction crew in Wendlingen installs the last few meters of tracks and a switch. After that, the test ICE runs on the new tracks and checks whether the overhead lines are installed correctly and no vibrations can be felt in the track. The demands on the high-speed track are enormous. It is precision work in the millimeter range, where nothing can go wrong - millimeter work on a route of around 60 kilometers.
