To prevent such tragedies, the old Schijnkoker became a buffer to collect excess rainwater. With the construction of the Oosterweel connection, the Schijnkoker was in danger of being damaged and was in the way. The Antwerp Ring needs to be renovated and partially deepened near Merksem. That is why we have been moving the Schijnkoker over the past 2 years. The works are almost finished. The zone between the Ring and the district is now ready for the construction of the Bypass.
