A haunted school located in the city of Goldfield in Nevada. Inside, Ghost Adventure and a few others were able to investigate. We had the honor and permission to stay inside for a whole night. The town of Goldfield, Nevada grew quite rapidly after the discovery of gold in 1902. It soon became the largest city in Nevada, a thriving mecca for adventurous miners, rough-and-tumble cowboys, and Old West entrepreneurs. During Goldfield's heyday, several large buildings were constructed, including the infamously haunted Goldfield Hotel and the perhaps less famous but equally impressive (and haunted) Goldfield High School. While many of Goldfield's buildings were destroyed in a series of fires in 1923 and 1924, both the Goldfield Hotel and Goldfield High School survived and remained operational for some time after the boom. Built in 1907, Goldfield High School remains an imposing stone and brick structure that practically stands in the shadow of its neighboring hotel cousin. The last graduating class here was 1952. The school was abandoned in 1953 due to structural problems and has sat vacant ever since. And while today one might marvel at the buildings’ resistance over all these years, it is impossible not to notice the warping and bowing of the wooden staircase leading to the front doors, the crumbling brick and plaster, and the sagging of the right side of the building. Entire walls are missing, covered only by drywall and wooden support beams. The Goldfield Historical Society has made efforts to save this beautiful relic of the decaying past. It has received grants from the National Park Service’s Save America’s Treasure program and the National Trust for Historic Preservation. These funds, along with private donations, helped provide initial emergency stabilization for the building. However, further stabilization and restoration are needed to save it. Rumors of ghosts residing within the walls of Goldfield High School center on the spirit of a young girl.
