In October 2022, when Pierre Manent published a powerful and personal essay on Blaise Pascal with Grasset, Le Figaro proposed a conversation between the philosopher, disciple of Raymond Aron and Alain Finkielkraut. Christianity, secularism, philosophy, literature… this dialogue between two great minds on the malaise in our civilization was a true intellectual event. The two writers, in fact, stand out for their clairvoyance in the fog of the times as well as for their language as precise as it is limpid. One, a philosopher and member of the Académie française, Alain Finkielkraut is one of the most worried, nuanced, and courageous voices in our intellectual life. The other, a philosopher and professor of political philosophy, Pierre Manent, was for a long time director of studies at the Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales.
