Here are all my videos related to cases in German: • Learn German A2 - DECLINATION of ad... Don't forget to subscribe to my channel here: / @tomaleman Follow me on Instagram. Important points of the video: The four cases in German: nominative, accusative, dative and genitive. The cases that need the most focus: accusative and dative. At the beginning it helps to learn the prepositions that have each case. First learn which prepositions are always accusative and which are always dative. Accusative prepositions: für, ohne, durch, gegen, um... For the man… for him… for me… For the man… for you… for me... Dative prepositions: mit, von, aus, nach, zu… With, of, from, to/towards…. With the man… with the woman… with me... Prepositions with both cases: an, auf, in, über… ACCUSATIVE (place) → WOHIN? (where to?) DATIVE (place) → WO? (where?) ACCUSATIVE (place) → WOHIN? (where to?) Ich gehe ins (in + das) Kino. I’m going to the cinema. DATIVE (place) → WO? (where?) Ich bin im (in + dem) Kino. I’m at the cinema. Ich come zu dir. I’m coming to you. Second, which prepositions are used in both the dative and the accusative. Then it helps to learn the most common verbs that take each case. Accusative verbs (direct): essen, trinken, wollen, finden… comer, beber, querer, encuentro… Dative verbs (indirect): folgen, helfen, passieren… seguir, ayuda, pasarán… Was ist dir passiert? What happened to you? Ich helfe dir. / I’ll help you. Dative verbs (indirect): folgen, helfen, passieren… seguir, ayuda, pasarán… Verbs with both cases: geben, schreiben, sagen… Dative verbs (indirect) / accusative (direct): geben, schreiben… / dar, escribir, decir… Ich gebe dir etwas. / I’m giving you something. Ich gebe dir einen Stift. / I give you a pencil (to you). I know the truth. / I tell you the truth. / I write you a letter. / I write you a letter. The idea is not to simply memorize which verb has which case but how each case works. You have to learn the main idea of the accusative case. You have to learn the main idea of the accusative case. You have to understand and accept that there will be exceptions and that not everything will always be logical as we expect. Not everything will be the same as in Spanish. You have to be patient, because over time the correct case will start to come to you automatically when speaking (if you practice of course) and other times you will make a mistake due to a strange verb or preposition that creates confusion and that is okay, it is not the end of the world. Verbs that in Spanish have “the opposite case”: fragen, helfen.... / ask, help… Ich frage dich etwas. / I ask you something. Ich helfe dir mit etwas. / I help you with something.
