On December 7, 1992, following the vote of the monastery community and the decision of the late Archbishop Pimen, a new abbot was installed at Putna Monastery: Archimandrite Father – then Protosinghel – Melchisedec Velnic. The ordination was performed by His Eminence Bishop-Vicar Gherasim of Putna.
