This lecture by José Manuel Galán covers the numerous expeditions that have taken place in the Valley of the Kings –located near the ancient city of Thebes– since Napoleon's arrival in Egypt in 1798, passing through Belzoni, under the orders of Henry Salt, who discovered the tombs of Ramses I and Seti I, among others. The discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922 by Howard Carter and his team, with the help of Lord Carnarvon, is described in detail.
