The Woman Who Fled Communism Twice, Becoming a Community Service Person in the United States - The Story of Ms. Dang Kim Trang Since childhood, Ms. Dang Kim-Trang was brought to South Vietnam by her parents in 1954 to avoid living under the communist regime. In 1975, she decided to leave her homeland thanks to the experience of her father's generation: In her memory, she clearly remembers what her father said: "We do not live with communism. We must leave, if we are lucky, we will meet again." And their family was lucky enough to reach the shore of freedom. In the early days in the United States, she worked at a school. Originally a teacher in the Republic of Vietnam education system in South Vietnam, at that time, watching others become teachers made her feel sad for her refugee status... Then she decided not to give in to her circumstances! She has tried to overcome all difficulties to become a person recruited to serve in a social facility at the temporary shelter. In addition, she also volunteered for the Vietnamese Community in San Diego, Southern California... We invite you to directly listen to the sharing of experiences of the President of the Vietnamese Community in San Diego - Ms. Dang Kim-Trang. History Through Stories is one of the projects of the Vietnamese Heritage Museum to preserve stories in memory, directly through the stories of those who participated or were witnesses to modern historical events. This project is a research work aimed at collecting, archiving and explaining the history of Vietnamese refugees. Vietnamese refugees who survived need the opportunity to directly share their experiences, or witness the historical events of the nation, on the path to freedom, as well as the initial difficulties of settling and making a living in a foreign land. This is an opportunity to sympathize and understand each other better among refugee generations; at the same time, it also creates for future generations to understand, be proud of, and be grateful for the sacrifices and courage of their ancestors.
