On the eve of the New Year holidays, the team of developers of the Russian electric car Atom held a traditional meeting with journalists, which inevitably resembled a report on the work done in 2024. But the future was also discussed. The main reason for the meeting was the demonstration of the body of the future electric car. Five types of metal were used in its creation, including ordinary steel, three types of high-strength steel and aluminum. Several weeks ago, the capital's Moskvich automobile plant began welding trial bodies that will not turn into finished cars, but are needed to debug the technological process. With the exception of hot stamping parts, suspension elements and some other internal components, the Atom body will be galvanized on both sides. Plus cataphoretic primer and wax in hidden cavities. Full-size crash tests will begin next year in Russia and China: in total, they plan to crash as many as three dozen cars. In the meantime, individual parts are being tested. Ivan Solomin: “These are already the first tests of our physical objects, body elements. And also checks of the operation of our airbags. How the runners, seats, interior trim react in a crash test. On a physical object, not a simulation. Our task is to implement all the elements of passive and active safety in combination in order to achieve four C-NCAP stars, which in 2026 becomes even more stringent in terms of regulations and rules, and we are already striving for it, that is, for the future.” However, modern Chinese crash tests are in some ways even more difficult than European ones. For example, a frontal impact with 100% overlap in the Celestial Empire is carried out not at 50 km / h, but at 56. And a side impact is simulated by a heavier trolley, and it hits not the threshold, but higher. Atom expects to receive vehicle type approval next fall. If serial production begins in the summer, then sales of cars will start by the end of 2025 at the latest.
