Have we moved on as humanity from communism and fascism, or is the chance of collaborating with such a regime still the same as before? Can we predict such behavior or is there any prevention against it? And what is that "something" in us that leads to evil and moral failure? Another guest of Deep Talks was writer Jiří Padevět, whose new book Czech Bestiary was published. In this book, he describes eight stories of Czechs who collaborated with monstrous regimes – Nazi, Communist, and some with both – and gradually became such monsters themselves and, from today's perspective, morally failed fatally. Jiří Padevět is also the director of the Academia publishing house, winner of the Magnesia Litera award and the author of many books with historical themes, mainly from the Protectorate era.
