We left Caleta Tortel bound for Villa O'Higgins, a day's route that included 150km of gravel, with a ferry crossing in Puerto Yungay on the Rio Bravo. Upon disembarking we met up with the friends we had met in Hornopiren at the beginning of this adventure, and then faced the longest 100km of the Carretera Austral, not because of its difficulty, but because of the anxiety of reaching our dream destination, the longed-for Villa O'Higgins. On our way back to find food and lodging we were checked by the Carabineros de Chile, who in addition to doing their job, gave us some tremendous information that would change our route, which we will tell you about in the next chapter.
