How were humans and divine beings born from this encounter, as well as the story that originally and forever unites and divides them? Proceeding by successive "scenes", the Seminar will recall some significant stages of the path of self-understanding of Western civilization: from the first fable we read in Hesiod, to Lucretius and Vico; from Joseph Görres and the romantic Heidelberg, to Hegelian-Marxist anthropology and Wittgenstein's criticisms of James G. Frazer. At the center is the question of knowledge, divided between figures and inventions of poetry and technical operations and objectivity of knowledge; mythologically, between Orpheus and Prometheus. But also, we could say, between evolution and progress, between metamorphic knowledge of the word and knowledge of instrumental scientific objectivity in progress. A fracture that still weighs on the unity of culture and on our models of education and research. Kerényi and Auerbach problematically asked themselves whether the fracture could ever be healed, whether the gap that had occurred between myth and logos, where Nietzsche saw the turning point of universal history, could ever be sutured. If this were to happen, perhaps what Ilya Prigogine hypothesized as a "new alliance" between philosophy and science would be set in motion. We would then have a philosophy freed from the primordial opposition with myth and which precisely for this reason opens to dialogue with all the cultures of the Earth, outlining an unprecedented dynamic art of writing and thought, that is, a new exercise of the human.
