Hey, in this episode of the Postwar series I dealt with the case of the assassination attempt on John Paul II. The Pope from an Eastern Bloc country was a thorn in the side of the Kremlin. A person from a formally atheistic country became the head of the Catholic Church. Meanwhile, on May 13, 1981, in St. Peter's Square, Ali Agca shot at John Paul II, seriously wounding him. The Pope was immediately transported to a clinic, where he underwent surgery. The assassin was captured by Italian services, which began an investigation. However, to this day it has not been possible to determine who actually ordered the assassination attempt on the Pole. However, many indications are that it was Moscow.
