Not everything has been said about Paul of Tarsus despite the fact that since St. Augustine, and mainly since Martin Luther and the Reformation, hundreds of books have been written about him. It is not even clear, as is stated with certainty, that Paul was the "second founder of Christianity" nor a strict Pharisee as he himself apparently claims. Since 1970, a powerful new current of interpretation of Paul's theology has emerged, led mainly by independent evangelical theologians and Jewish historians of Israelite thought, which questions opinions that have apparently been established for centuries: Can it be maintained today that all or part of Paul has been misunderstood for more than fifteen centuries? Was Paul's thought exclusively Jewish despite the environment of his birth and schooling in a Greek world? Did Paul abandon Jewish law? Or did he always behave, even externally, like a practicing Jew? Is it possible to argue that pagans and Jews are saved not by believing in Jesus Christ, but by imitating his acts of fidelity? Did Paul's possible deification of Jesus break the strict monotheism of Israel? Responding clearly to these and other burning questions is the core of this "Interpretation of Pauline thought", written in dialogue with exegetical work and the most lively and current scientific discussion. Its method consists of carefully reading the texts, providing a new version of Paul's letters, to understand what their author wanted to say to his first readers.
