'The Americans' by Robert Frank is one of the great books in the history of photography; it is the one that put value on the moments that were left out of the famous 'decisive moment' of Cartier-Bresson, the one that transgressed the rules of geometric, perfect and balanced compositions, the one that gave meaning to the lack of focus and 'out of frame' framing... And also the one that showed a relentless but full of poetry, subtlety and meaning look at the American society of the time. A book without which it would be impossible to understand today's photography, but which is not at all easy to understand on a first reading. In this video we explain some of its keys and analyse its photos one by one.
