17-18 August 2021 The first day, starting from Pian della Sega and, passing first through the Davide Ongari refuge at Carè Alto and then from Bocca di Conca and Passo delle Vacche, we reach the Bivacco Segalla, our base for the night. The following day, we wake up at 5.30 am, have breakfast and after having put on all the necessary equipment to tackle the Via degli Alpini (southwest ridge), at 6 am we leave. A spectacular route, made up of ledges, dihedrals, walkways and ridges, but the most spectacular thing is seeing what the Austrians had created during the war for their attack and at the same time for their defense. At 9.15 am we are at the summit and the emotion takes over. We descend from the normal route (northwest ridge) both to shorten the travel time and to see a new route, never taken by us. After two descents, we find ourselves on the Lares glacier, we cross it until we rejoin the cairns of the Sella di Niscli and the Cai path that takes us back to the Ongari refuge. Lunch at the refuge is well deserved and with our smiles on our faces, we return to the car satisfied.
