This is how Piero Chiara defined Lake Orta. God's watercolour, for its colours and atmospheres. I take inspiration from the ALn 663 series 1000, which still run along the shores of the lake on the Novara-Domodossola line, for a quick, too quick, reconnaissance of the splendid village of Orta San Giulio, with a visit to the Island of San Giulio and the Sacromonte. I visit Legro, the painted village, with murals inspired by famous films, I mention Bitter Rice, The Bishop's Room, A Farewell to Arms. Lake Orta: the genius of Man in the enchantment of Nature. With comments by Mario Soldati and ... Balzac. Then, with the ALn 663 1199 and 1168 I leave from Omegna and travel the line to Borgomanero, where until June 2012 the Domodossola-Novara line was crossed, in the station square, by the Santhià-Arona line which is now .... closed (SIC!!!), together with 11 other lines in Piedmont (eleven times SIC!!!). On the Novara-Domodossola, instead, which has become corridor 24 Barcelona-Kiev and Eastern European countries, the RoLa, Rollende Langstrasse trains. I come across one hauled by an E 474. Even a railway enthusiast to the core, however, remains enchanted by the enchantment of Lake Orta, to which I dedicate with the greatest pleasure the first part of this little video, the first of a series of three that I will publish, with the situation of a few years ago and today. See you soon!
