It takes on various forms. It can be verbal, physical, emotional. It can be a manifestation of helplessness, and almost every one of us has experienced it. Aggression. What is aggression and what are its causes? How does it affect our relationships with others? How can we deal with it and express emotions in a constructive way? Are the emotional effects of aggression felt only by its victim or also by the aggressor? What is the difference between aggressive and violent behavior? And what does it have to do with the experience of trauma? The topic will be discussed by psychologist and psychotraumatologist Dr. Elżbieta Zdankiewicz-Ścigała in a conversation with psychologist and psychotherapist Zofia Szynal. Dr. hab. Elżbieta Zdankiewicz-Ścigała, professor at SWPS University - psychologist, psychotraumatologist. She specializes in crisis intervention and psychotraumatology. She conducts research on the psychological consequences of trauma and on the impact of trauma on the development of PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) and other disorders related to the consequences of complex trauma. She is also interested in the physiological changes in the brain as a result of trauma. She analyzes the role of alexithymia, or the so-called emotional blindness, and dissociation in maintaining and perpetuating post-traumatic disorders. She has been involved in clinical practice for many years. She specializes in psychotherapy for people who have experienced complex trauma. In her work with patients, she uses such psychological methods of post-traumatic disorder therapy as: prolonged exposure procedures, cognitive processing, eclectic trauma therapy, narrative exposure therapy and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). She is one of the few people in Poland with the ESTSS General Certificate in Psychotraumatology. She also conducts training for institutions in the field of crisis management, psychological consequences of trauma, early crisis intervention in traffic accidents, psychoeducation, trauma therapy methods. Head of original postgraduate studies: psychology of crisis and intervention and psychotraumatology. At SWPS University, she conducts classes in the field of personality psychology, psychology of emotions and motivation, and psychology of crisis. Zofia Szynal - graduate of psychology at SWPS University, certified cognitive-behavioral psychotherapist. She completed postgraduate studies in clinical sexology and psychological diagnosis. Co-founder of the Mental Health Clinic Na Lepsze in Wrocław.
