About :

"The job is sometimes underestimated, according to the motto 'You're just driving.'" (Andreas Selleng, has been a truck driver since he was 18) Andreas loves driving and even in his free time he works with tractors in his tractor club. He also made the decision to go into this profession out of a childish enthusiasm. His father was also a truck driver and the young Andreas liked to do gymnastics in the big vehicles at weekends. At the same time, after 35 years in the job, Andreas also seems somewhat ambivalent. The trucker's life has its downsides. Working days of up to 15 hours are not unusual. Life takes place on the motorway. While most employees return to their families in the evening, Andreas spends the night at rest areas and truck stops. This gives him a certain feeling of freedom and he gets around the country a lot, but it also means that he only sees his children grow up at the weekend. "Sometimes you come home on Sunday morning and leave again on Monday. What are you saying?" In addition, he works for a haulage company in the Eifel, but lives in Cottbus. But since he is constantly on Germany's motorways anyway and his routes are often planned so that he can stop at home at the weekend, the distance to his employer is not so bad. His children do not want to continue in the profession. Andreas can understand this well and would advise them against following in his footsteps. Although he is personally satisfied with his salary and does not complain about constant time pressure at his haulage company. The basic problem remains: the job requires him to be separated from his family during the week. The fact is that our country would not function without truck drivers like Andreas Selleng. The rails cannot currently do what freight transport on the road transports every day. Thanks to people who are prepared to spend half their lives on the motorway, we have full supermarket shelves and much more.
