Zugspitze Höllental, this tour was tough. The Zugspitze via Höllental tour is probably one of the most difficult hikes on the Zugspitze. We did the tour in one day. We started in Hammersbach near Garmisch. Since we did the Zugspitze Höllental hike at the beginning of August 2022 on a very hot summer day, it was very strenuous for us because we had to have luggage with us for all conditions. In my opinion, the Zugspitze Höllental route is not for beginners. The ascent of Zugspitze Höllental is therefore only intended for experienced and skilled mountaineers. The tour starts in Hammersbach and leads through the Zugspitze Höllentalklamm to the Höllentalangerhütte Zugspitze. A good walk still has to be made to the Zugspitze Höllental via ferrata. The via ferrata is quite easy for experienced hikers. After that you come to a passage to walk and can already see the Höllentalferner. Just before the Zugspitze Höllental glacier you should put on your crampons. Back in August 2022, the glacier was bare. Because of the current climate, the Zugspitze Höllental winter ascent would probably be more of an option, provided the via ferrata is free of snow. Once you have crossed the glacier, you only come to the edge cleft, which is a key point. After that, only a long via ferrata to the Zugspitze via Höllental awaits you.
