Disease management programs (DMPs) were introduced in Germany in 2002 to sustainably improve the medical care of chronically ill patients. They are currently aimed at those with statutory health insurance who suffer from diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease, bronchial asthma, COPD or breast cancer. In order to find out how the quality of care for the DMP patients they care for has developed, all participating medical practices receive feedback reports every six months. These reports show which proportion of patients in the practice and in the entire region have achieved a goal for the indicators or quality goals set out in the DMP. Most general practitioners' practices participate in four DMPs, and previously received four feedback reports every six months. In Lower Saxony, the Zi has now chosen a different path. Here, for the first time, the results of all DMPs were summarized in a single feedback report. In addition to the usual comparisons of the results between your own and all other DMP practices, specific representations allow you to intuitively understand how good the quality of care in your own practice was. In this edition of "Zi insights", the new DMP feedback was presented. From the perspective of a resident DMP participant, the KV Niedersachsen and the Zi, the various aspects of the feedback as well as those of DMP quality assurance were discussed.
