During the Corona pandemic, people applauded for the nursing staff in the intensive care units of German hospitals. A good year after the official end of the pandemic, the issue has fallen out of the public spotlight - but the challenges within hospitals are actually getting bigger. The lack of nursing staff in particular is causing problems: The German Hospital Association estimates that there are currently more than 10,000 vacant nursing positions in intensive care units alone. PULS reporter Ariane Alter wants to find out: How hard is the job in the intensive care unit really? And: What would have to change so that more people finally want to do it? To do this, she works for two days in the intensive care unit of a Munich hospital and accompanies the everyday life of nursing professional Maria Winkelbauer and ward manager Barbara Munro-Zorn. #PULSReportage #Reportage #Clinic #Care #Intensive Care Unit ---------- You can find the most important sources here: ➡ German Hospital Association https://www.dki.de/fileadmin/forschun... ➡ German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (DIVI) eV (on request) ➡ Federal Ministry of Health https://www.bundesgesundheitsminister... ➡ Federal Ministry of Health https://www.bundesgesundheitsminister... ➡ Munich Clinic https://www.muenchen-klinik.de/jobs/p... ---------- Chapter overview 00:00 Introduction: How hard is the job in intensive care really? 00:54 Start of the shift: This is the intensive care unit 02:32 1st patient: Does his life depend on the work of the nursing staff? 04:40 2nd patient: This is how care is provided 06:48 How does nursing professional Maria deal with her great responsibility? 07:54 Back to the first patient: Ari helps with the blood draw 10:16 What are the consequences of the staff shortage in the intensive care unit? 13:38 Day 2: Ari accompanies a difficult procedure 18:32 One thing after another - on to the next patient 20:20 How much does a nurse earn in the intensive care unit? 21:38 Ari's conclusion ---------- Editors: Lukas Hellbrügge, Alexandra Reinsberg, Nadine Posmik Camera: Lukas Hellbrügge Editing: Lukas Hellbrügge Graphics: Felix Holderer, Lukas Brenninger, Solvey Handrick Channel Management: Amir Khalifa ---------- We are Ariane Alter, Sebastian Meinberg, Kevin Ebert and Leah Nlemibe from PULS Reportage.
