About :

The Stirling engine (DS) is a heat engine with external heat supply. It works on a closed Stirling thermodynamic cycle. A constant amount of the working substance circulates between two chambers with different temperatures, where it is alternately heated and cooled. Due to this, the pressure of the working substance changes, which moves the working pistons. Robert Stirling patented this type of engine in 1816. The creation of miniature Stirling engines is a popular direction of technical creativity. In fact, the inventors offered engines with external heat supply before. But the Stirling engine has a significant difference - it is a so-called "economist", or recuperator. The recuperator extracts heat when the working body moves from the heater chamber to the cooler, and heats the working body when it moves in the opposite direction. The Stirling cycle engine differs from internal combustion engines in that there is a constant amount of working fluid in the device. The first Stirlings used air as a working body, which leaked out due to leaks. That is why the first Stirlings had a low pressure of the working body. Modern stirlings are usually sealed, and hydrogen, helium, nitrogen under high (above 100 atm) pressure are used as the working body. Heat is transferred to the system and removed from the system through the walls. There is no combustion inside the system, and as a result, there are no pressure surges that accompany the combustion process. The engine has two working zones (these can be two separate chambers). Usually, the working volume in these zones (chambers) is changed with the help of pistons. Pistons can be connected to each other: by mechanical transmission, pneumatic, hydraulic, electric device. An important component of Stirling is the recuperator. Thanks to the recuperator, the theoretical efficiency of the Stirling is considered equivalent to the Carnot cycle.
