This loose piston already costs 60,000 Euros. And for good reason. It has to withstand more than 200Gs as it moves up and down inside the engine at over 130km per hour. F1 engines cost over 8 million Euros each and these pistons are one of the key components that help them produce over 1000 horsepower. But why does it cost 1000 times more than a road car piston? Well, it turns out there are a lot of very good reasons for these crazy costs. If you're into F1, you'll know that you can't start one of its engines the way you would a road car. The tolerances are so tight that the pistons get stuck in the cylinders until the car is warmed up, so engineers take at least half an hour to warm up the coolant and oil before they can start the engine. And you might be wondering, why isn't that necessary for our road cars? #F1 #Engineering #Pistons
