People with dementia have the right to make their own decisions for as long as possible and thus lead as independent a life as possible. However, as dementia progresses, their own judgment deteriorates. At a certain point, those affected can no longer correctly assess the consequences of their actions - and therefore can no longer correctly evaluate legally binding transactions. Univ.-Prof. Dr. jur. Andreas Spickhoff holds the chair for civil law and medical law in the Faculty of Law at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. He is also a full member of the Lower Saxony Academy of Sciences in Göttingen. In the webinar, he explains the legal basis for the legal capacity of people with dementia from a civil law perspective. For example, he discusses the determination of legal incapacity and describes what consequences this can have for people with dementia.
