Călin Georgescu, an independent presidential candidate, has sparked countless controversies with his radical statements about the war in Ukraine, the reintroduction of compulsory military service and privatizations in Romania. Georgescu also claimed that he has a spiritual connection with the historian Nicolae Iorga, but also that man did not reach the Moon and that the Apollo missions are a manipulation. Vasile Bănescu, theologian and publicist, former spokesperson of the Romanian Patriarchate, was present on the set of Euronews where he spoke about the excessive use of religion in the electoral campaign. He said that he felt scandalized by a statement of a candidate in the presidential elections and that the Romanian people "no longer sit well in the register of good knowledge of the faith they invoke".
