[ Erkenbrechtsweiler (ES): One dead and several seriously injured after traffic accident involving a truck A truck driver was killed in a traffic accident on Uracher Strasse on Tuesday morning. The 62-year-old was driving his multi-axle dump truck loaded with excavated earth on Uracher Strasse in the direction of Kirchheimer Strasse at around 11:50 a.m. For reasons that are still unclear, he did not turn right in front of the construction site at the intersection of Kirchheimer Strasse / Uracher Strasse / Obere Strasse as signposted, but drove straight on into the properly marked and cordoned off construction site. There he collided head-on with a 63-year-old's tipper truck, which was dumping tar into the trough of a tar machine behind it. The force of the impact pushed the articulated truck against the tar machine and pushed the two vehicles, which weighed several tons, several meters backwards. The driver of the dump truck was trapped in his vehicle in the collision and was so seriously injured that he died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the tar truck, who had to stay in his vehicle for the unloading process, was also seriously injured and was subsequently flown to a hospital by a rescue helicopter. Three workers aged 26, 37 and 53, who were doing asphalting work around the tar machine, were so seriously injured that they had to be taken to nearby hospitals by the emergency services. An expert was called in to investigate the circumstances and cause of the accident. The material damage caused is estimated at at least 300,000 euros. In addition to the fire brigade with seven vehicles and 32 firefighters and the rescue service with three ambulances, an emergency doctor and a rescue helicopter, employees of the psychosocial emergency care service were also on site to provide care. A group of children who were standing nearby and witnessed the accident were subsequently cared for in the town hall. The recovery of the tarring machine and the two trucks, which require special recovery vehicles, is currently ongoing.
