Tremalzo: a must for every biker! Having said this, there are several ways to ride on those splendid mountains. The classic is clockwise, starting from the historic Rampiledro, starting from the shores of Lake Ledro, climbing up to Bocca dei Fortini and heading towards Passo di Nota, then up to the fantastic Tremalzo, riding on a former military road with an excellent surface. The most popular alternative is to extend the climb starting from Riva del Garda and riding along the fantastic Ponale road overlooking Lake Garda. A simple but very rewarding climb, even when you leave the shores of the lake to enter the valley that climbs up to the beautiful Lake Ledro. Going up from Pregasina, always clockwise, first riding along Bocca dei Larici and then Passo Rocchetta is more arduous and requires some walking (wonderful in the opposite direction). The Leano valley, which I chose for this tour, is instead not very popular uphill due to the extreme gradients for several kilometers. In this case, if you are not very fit, an E-Bike allows you to enjoy this splendid and new access route to Tremalzo. If you want to go counterclockwise instead, there is only the paved road from Tiarno di Sopra. Very difficult if not impossible to go up the paths that we took downhill. Other access routes to Tremalzo are from Limone / Vesio. Separate chapter. You can find numerous possibilities online, but pay attention to the difference in altitude and the difficulty of the route, it is very easy to find technical paths and mule tracks and exposed single tracks that require excellent driving skills. Returning to our tour, we started from Riva del Garda, went along the Ponale, entered the Val di Ledro and arrived at Prè di Ledro, diverted towards Leano and the Passo Guil. Then a few kilometers at altitude with some food & drink along Bocca dei Fortini, Passo Bestana and the Passo di Nota. Here you can stop for refreshments before tackling the long road that leads to the Tremalzo Pass (possibly also recharge the e-bike). We then set off again on a former military dirt road with a constant slope until we reach the 1850m of the tunnel, the highest point of the tour. We then descend slightly to reach the legendary Tremalzo Pass where you can recharge before tackling the long descent (possibly also recharge the e-bike). At this point there is more than one option. Retrace the outward route and once you reach the Guil Pass continue straight towards the Rocchetta Pass and Bocca dei Larici, where there is also a stunning panoramic point on Lake Garda! or go down towards Tiarno di Sopra. Up to this point the route does not present any particular difficulties other than the length and the difference in altitude. If you decide to go down with absolute tranquility the only possibility is to go down the asphalt road, otherwise you go down about a kilometre until you cross a forest road that leads to Bocca Casèt. From here two possible single tracks, the one we took very smooth without particular difficulties except for some narrower and more technical sections (worst case scenario, like Antonella did, you can walk a few dozen meters) followed by a forest road that takes you straight to Tiarno di Sopra, or the other that goes down towards Bocchetta de la Spinera and straight to the shores of Lake Ledro, a much more technical option that requires some downhill skills.
